To be able to go to New Zealand under the Working Holiday Scheme you must be a citizen of a country which has signed a reciprocal Working Holiday Maker Arrangement with New Zealand.
Working Holiday SchemeConditions
Accepted countries:
Citizens from the following countries can apply for a Working Holiday Scheme Work Visa:
Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, France, Hong Kong (HKSAR), Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, USA, Uruguay
The duration of stay and the respective working conditions differ from country to country. For more detailed information please click here and select your country of origin.
Travel costs: The au pair must bear the travel costs himself/herself. Please be aware that you may be asked to provide evidence of your return ticket on arrival in New Zealand. If you as a host family want to bear a part of the costs, please do not do this until the au pair has successfully arrived and stayed with you for a part of the agreed time.
Duration of the stay: Most Working Holiday Makers can stay up to 12 months in New Zealand. Exceptions apply for people from United Kingdom (23 months) as well as from Malaysia and Singapore (6 months). However, there are regulations that au pairs from certain countries must not work for the same employer for more than three months.
